Just a few weeks ago I had the opportunity to sit down with a young man who has a very promising career in the sport of baseball. While sitting down with him, and listening to him retell the things he has endured for the gospel in the land he is from, I couldn’t help but be reminded of the words in the book of Acts. “Act 9:15 But the Lord said to him, Go! For this one is a chosen vessel to Me, to bear My name before nations and kings and the sons of Israel. Act9:16 For I will show him what great things he must suffer for My name’s sake.” Interestingly enough, this young man became a believer only a couple of years ago. Shortly after his conversion, as he retells it “all hell broke loose”, and it was at that time were he had begun to speak out for the Kingdom of God. And so came the question, “why am I having to go through this? I thought after I began to live my life after Jesus things would be better not worse”.
Isn’t it interesting that the man who penned over sixty percent of the New Testament, the Apostle Paul was told by Ananias through the unction of God’s Spirit, “For I will show him what great things he must suffer for My name’s sake”. When was the last time you considered that what you are suffering is “For (His) name’s sake”? In this great nation we live in, we don’t often deal with the persecution that people from other countries do. Be that as it may, even in a lesser scale, do you find yourself walking through a circumstance just because you are believer of Jesus Christ?
Consider this, your suffering might just be “For His name’s sake”…..
