At the heart of the leadership of ROC is the embedding of 12 characters into the heart of every believer. For the month of January it is Wisdom. As a group, we are reading through the book of Proverbs for the month of January.
While reading Proverbs during the week, I couldn’t help but notice one of the issues which constantly attacks all of us as humans, that is the issue of Laziness. With all of the technological advancements, I believe that is the biggest dilemma we face today, we have been put to sleep by the continual watching of some type of electronic device. Whether it be Netflix, Hulu, You Tube or Instagram, Facebook, and the list goes on. Everyone of us has to properly deal with the time we have to perform tasks that are productive. Time is the only resource that is non-renewable, meaning that the moment a second is past, we will not be able to reuse that same second again. If only science could figure out how to turn back the clock we might be able to rescind that statement, but for now, time will remain as wasted time if we don’t have the right focus.
In Proverbs 19:15 King Solomon writes “Laziness cast one into a deep sleep, And an idle person will suffer hunger”. Have you ever noticed when there is nothing planned for the day, and you can just sit around doing nothing, you feel groggy and overcome with unadulterated laziness? It seems that King Solomon was unto something here!
Don’t let your idle time get the best of you, every once in a while, it is necessary to unwind and just take the load off. But even to much of a good thing can become a bad thing.
